Poison
Hazardous freak of nature alive,
torn, joyfully trapped
passage; voluntary flight of fancy.
Majestic butterfly effect,
untouched by human hands,
set me free; fly away.
Atmospheric phenomenon behind blue eyes,
passionate amber spyglass darkness
bad love; perfect score.
Oxidation aftermath intoxicated
bipolar cancer, celebrity throw-up.
Affirmative participate
underground network; you think I'm listening.
Porcelain modest mouse spiderbait
levitation tangles cathedral honeymoon.
Radiation, chemotherapy.

Legend
Alone sits a dragon atop a hill
Wondering when he'll get his fill
He's been starving for weeks and weeks
To get some meat inside his cheeks.
Along comes a knight, brave and strong
He's been travelling four weeks long
He spots the dragon upon the hill
And decides to go in for the kill.
Whilst charging up the steep incline
The knight realizes he's in a bind
The dragon's started galloping in
To meet the knight with a hungry grin.
The knight turns back and tries to flee
But the dragon's got him, he won't get free
"I've got you now!" says dragon to knight
"You'll slay no more dragons after this fight!"
Then just as the dragon opened his jaws
A sound in the distance made him pause
Seeing his chance, the knight wiggled loose
Out of the hands of the "over-sized goose".
He jumped upon his great white horse
And rode away quickly, whith no remorse
"I'll get him tomorrow, just wait and see!
This dragon will not make a fool out of me!"
The knight never returned to the lonely hill
And the dragon never did get his fill
No one knows what became of the two
And no one knows if this legend is true.
The Smell of Fear
Hoarse voices shatter with the
exploding of artillary.
Mangled bodies decay with the
remnants of spent
rifles.
Bitter blood mingles with the
taste of sour sweat.
Smooth guns cling to the
hands that caress
them.
The sweet smells of war cloud my mind.
Roses for Mother
Long since green and fit to burst,
grown tired of cramped spaces.
New to the world, tiny buds
burst open like the doors of a
church after wedding bells sound.
Feather light, silky smooth
reds blending with pinks and
yellows and whites.
Sweet fragrances lift the air up and
out of the room on silver wings.
Attracting attention of little ones,
multicolored spools of silk sit safely
away from curious fingers.
Yet even as they sit perched on their
honored pedestal, the first petal drifts to the ground.
School Life
Whirling students and grade reports
teachers protesting too-short shorts
sprinting quickly from class to class
can't be late, you have to pass
sitting in seats much too small
aptly staring at the wall
wondering exactly when
while gripping your pen
the bell will sound
signaling 'round
escape for all
till fall.
Spiders
Creepy, hairy,
small and scary
crawling there within your bedroom wall.
Crawly, sneaky,
quick and blinky
never making any noise at all.
Spineless, earless,
brave and fearless
make you feel all tingly when they crawl.
Stealthy, healthy,
smart and wealthy
making their own houses out of gauze.
Filthy, dirty,
light and earthy
I know that I will squash it without pause.

Bored
It's a hot afternoon,
what should we do?
We could play in the park
or go to the zoo.
We could listen to music
or watch the TV.
We could swim in the pond
or climb in a tree.
We could sit and read stories,
tell long and tall tales.
We could stare out the window
and wait till it hails.
We could lay in the grass
and watch the clouds drift.
We could watch the birds pass
smoothly and swift.
What should we do
on this hot summer day?
I'm going inside to dream my boredom away.
Waiting
Ragged breaths rattle her body
every gasp that's taken in
is agony to her desperate lungs
but she needs them now more than ever.
Friends and family gather round
watching and waiting for
those essential breaths to stop
waiting, yet grateful for the life they give.
Behind her closed eyelids
she dreams of somewhere else,
a place with no pain and no suffering
where she can once again live in peace.
Her daughter sits close beside her,
telling her everything will be
all right, and not to worry about what's
to come, but she's already asleep.
In her mind memories fly by
of the times she has had, and the love
she has shared with others...
others who sit with her now, waiting.
Conception
Kings and queens, bells and beans
ringing in the halls of lonely minds.
What happens to this world when
all is said and done?
Who will be the last one standing?
Will anyone remember us when
we pass from this life?
What is heaven like?
Clouds of silk and warm sunny hills.
Nothing to lose and nothing to gain.
Wisps of memories float in and out
of your mind's grasp.
The time for conception is long past.
No pain, no fear.
No concept of time, no reason to
keep track of things.
We wonder what heaven is like, but
what I wonder is; what will happen to
the bells and beans?
Thoughts
Don't ask me what I'm thinking,
I may not answer you.
As soon as the words leave
your mouth, my thoughts
scatter like so many spiders
from the light of day.
The words stick in my throat
as I quickly try to come up
with something clever.
No words can express the pain
that is going through my
mind, or the anguish tearing
away at my soul.
Random thoughts come to mind,
and I almost consider telling
you exactly what's going on
inside my head, giving you some
insight as to what I'm
feeling...almost.
Kitty
Tiny feet pad across carpeted floors.
Pink noses peek around the corners.
Glowing eyes light up in the dark.
Satiny fur leaves traces on the beds.
Stiff whiskers brush against hands.
Alert ears swivel around aimlessly.
Sinuous tails curl about the legs.
Fluffy bodies sit sleepily in the sun
waiting to be cuddled.
Life
eye contact, introductions.
coffee, phone numbers, second date.
rendezvous, spend the night.
meet the parents, proposal, marriage.
building a home, furnishing.
love, lust, passion, joy, climax.
pregnancy, preparations.
contractions, pain, delivery, birth.
children, toys, cars, bigger house.
love, anniversary, celebration.
grow up, move out, go to college.
grow old together, happily ever after.
family reunions, visits, phone calls.
birthdays, holidays, presents.
nursing home, tired bones, easy living.
hard of hearing, endless love.
death bed, family keeps company.
wills, arrangements, planning.
final farewells, kisses, hugs, tears.
last breath, see the light, death.

The Whispy
With stripes and prints
it runs and sprints
from hill to dale
from bucket to pail.
It hops and flies
through clouds and skies
from lake to stream
from thought to dream.
It crawls and swims
through cries and whims
from house to home
from brush to comb.
Without its wings
it loudly sings;
to be the best,
impress the rest!
Beach Senses
Bathed in warm sunshine
Covered in sun tan lotion
Sand sucking at your toes
Swimming in chilly water.
Tourists taking pictures
Buying ice cream and food
Laying on beach towels
Soaking in the bright rays.
Sea gulls crying overhead
Kids building sand castles
Sitting in reclined chairs
Listening to the waves.
She always loved being here.
Packing
Boxes boxes everywhere
something here, now nothing there
things disappear without a trace
the smile fades softly from my face
leaving friends to meet the new
good feelings are small and few
rooms fill with heavy hearts
already missing their little parts
walls dump pictures to the floor
not wanting us there anymore
we move too much
lives cold to the touch
wandering from door to door
I don't want to move anymore.
First Flight
Please board the plane.
Don't worry, it's safe
'long as you stay in your seat.
Buckle up, tightly now.
Don't want to bounce around.
Sit tight.
If you hear a noise, it's just
the engines turning on... probly.
Just relax. Enjoy the ride.
Won't be long till you're
on solid ground again. Promise.
Rainy Weather
Sour as gossip and
bitter as condescension
with toenails curling under
like snails trying to
escape salt flying in their
eyes as it falls from the
smoggy skies polluted
from the rushing of
diesel powered by the
rays of the moon that
pinch the planet with its
dying absence of life and
willingness to be a part
of this universe.
Blue Eyes
Bright blue eyes
shine down on me in
admiration and I wonder
what I did to deserve
such a loving gaze
from someone I've known
so well for so long,
and never realized
what was there all along.
Yet now those beautiful
eyes are being torn away
from me and even as
I speak they grow sad
but I tell them to be happy,
for I will always love them
and remember their
sparkling admiration and
forgiveness of my parting.

Bundles of Joy
Boucing baby boys
and bubbly baby girls
who love to play with toys
and pull my bouncy curls.
They crawl upon my lap
and stare with great intent
they give my nose a tap
I know they won't relent.
I bounce them on my knee
as they laugh out in joy
and show me their new teeth
along with their new toy.
I carry them upstairs
and tuck them into bed
they know their mommy cares
as they lay down their head.
Nightmare Alive
Floors opening under me
ceilings falling on top of me
walls crashing in on me
doors slamming in my face
windows shutting on my fingers
blinds blocking out the light
I can't get out, can't escape
we're going too fast
I can't hold onto anything
because everything is against me
biting, snapping, growling
my life is like a house that
won't let my emotions out
I'm so scared but I can't scream
my voice catches in my throat
please make it stop, save me...
A Final Farewell
As I sadly leave this home
I say goodbye to everyone.
Goodbye to friends made old & new
Goodbye to Jake, I'll miss you too.
Goodbye to Izzy, Laina, Kins,
Goodbye to Jesse and the twins.
Farewell I say, with feelings strong
Farewell for now, I won't be long.
Literal Snowfal
start out slow, take it easy
watch the toe edge, heel edge
j-turns and switching
careful now, here comes a drift
slow down! turn away! do something!
uh oh...sliding, rolling, tumbling
slamming into the ground face first
ice up your shirt, down your pants
...snow's not as soft as it looks.
Foreign Language
Puffy clouds roll in quietly
as I sit reading my book.
Small droplets spatter on the pages,
smearing the letters together.
The little hairs on my arms
raise in anticipation of the icy drops.
First a sprinkle, then teardrops,
then small marbles
fall from the sky in a steady shower.
Drops slide down my nose,
my clothes are damp
and cling to my warm skin,
my hair drips with
miniature rainbows as the sun
emerges once more.
But I can't continue reading;
my pages are written in a
language only the clouds
can understand.
